Client

Our client is a large consumer-facing organisation operating in Dalmatia, with complex day-to-day operations. They are looking for an experienced Finance Director to take overall responsibility for financial leadership and support the company’s business performance and decision-making.

Position

The Finance Director will act as a key financial adviser to management, providing the expertise and insight required for informed business decisions.

The role holds overall responsibility for financial planning, budgeting, reporting, cash management, internal controls, and compliance. It also includes oversight of accounting processes, ensuring that they are accurate, well controlled, and aligned with applicable accounting standards and Croatian regulations.

This is not a hands-on accounting position. The focus is on financial leadership, business advisory, performance management, and effective oversight of the finance function and related processes.

Key responsibilities include:

• Financial Leadership & Advisory: Acting as a trusted financial adviser to management and providing clear analysis and recommendations to support business decisions
• Planning & Performance: Leading annual business planning and budgeting, monitoring financial results, and identifying opportunities to improve performance
• Financial Operations & Controls: Overseeing financial reporting, cash management, payments, receivables, assets, and internal financial controls
• Accounting Governance & Compliance: Ensuring the quality and compliance of accounting processes and financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and Croatian tax and regulatory requirements
• External Coordination: Managing cooperation with auditors, tax authorities, advisers, and other relevant external partners
• Team Leadership: Leading and organising the finance function, setting clear priorities, and ensuring effective cooperation and accountability

Candidate

• Significant experience in a senior financial leadership role within a large or operationally complex organisation
• Deep expertise in financial management, including planning, budgeting, reporting, performance analysis, cash management, and internal controls
• Ability to act as a credible financial adviser to senior management and translate financial information into clear business recommendations
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, Croatian tax regulations, and the local regulatory framework, sufficient to effectively oversee and challenge specialist functions
• Proven experience leading sizeable teams and coordinating outsourced service providers
• Mature, structured, and business-minded, with sound judgement, a hands-on approach, and a strong sense of integrity and accountability
